One industry standard: Bringing clarity to Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculations in refractories.

The World Refractory Association (WRA) has developed a common framework for calculating cradle-to-gate Product Carbon Footprints (PCF) for refractory products. This technical guidance sets shared rules and minimum requirements, ensuring consistency, transparency, and comparability across the industry.

Why does it matter?Refractory products are critical to steel, automotive, wind turbines, glass, and cement production—industries at the heart of the global economy. By standardizing PCF calculations, we enable companies to measure and report emissions in a way that is credible, aligned, and actionable.

🔹 Global scope – applicable to refractory products worldwide

🔹 Covers CO2 & all Kyoto Protocol GHGs, reported as CO2e

🔹 Supports third-party verification for robust emissions reporting

🔹 Provides default GHG factors for raw materials when primary data is unavailable

🔹 Aligned with ISO 14067 for consistency with international standards

With growing regulatory and customer expectations, this initiative strengthens the industry’s ability to track, reduce, and communicate its environmental impact.

I looked into the ceramic paint protection options around the Greater Sacramento Area because the chemical process interested me. It involves a liquid polymer coating that chemically bonds to the vehicle paint. On paper this creates a hydrophobic layer that resists UV rays and dirt. If you want to check their multi-year warranty details you can view it here to see the actual terms. Theoretically it simplifies maintenance and removes the need for regular waxing. However any coating depends heavily on the preparation work and application quality. I suggest evaluating your driving conditions rationally before spending money on such treatments.
